UFree Network for Human Rights mourns the Palestinian political prisoner Fadi al-Darbi, 30, who died Sunday in an Israeli prison after suffering a stroke.
Fadi al-Darbi, who had been arrested in 2006 and sentenced to 14-year prison, was transferred Wednesday to Soroka hospital where he was pronounced brain dead. He had suffered a stroke earlier in the day.
UFree said that Fadi's health had deteriorated as a result of medical negligence by the Israeli Prison Service, holding Israeli authorities full responsibility for his death.
Fadi had also been a victim of medical negligence after suffering abdominal bleeding two years earlier, while being isolated in Israeli jails.
Some 7,000 Palestinians are reportedly behind bars in 17 Israeli prisons and detention centers, denied all rights including essential medical treatment when ill. Over 1,500 Palestinian prisoners are sick or disabled, scores in serious condition. Israel denies them vitally needed healthcare except for ineffective pain killers.
