The spokesman of the Palestinian Prisoner Center for Studies, Riyad al-Ashqar, said that the Israeli occupation authorities are detaining 1,200 Palestinian sick captives, forming 17% of the 7,000 Palestinian prisoners.

In a statement on the World Health Day which coincided on April 07, Ashqar added that the Palestinian sick detainees suffer lack of adequate health care as well as medical negligence. The captives complain about the delay in conducting surgeries and medical examinations lasting for years as well as the prescription of unsuitable medications, he elaborated.

There are 21 captives who are struggling with cancer in addition to 34 disabled prisoners. 25 Detainees also suffer heart diseases, while several others suffer from kidney failure. There are 2 more detainees with Hepatitis other than the 19 captives who are held in Ramleh prison hospital, Ashqar pointed out.

Israeli Prison Service refuses to allow medical specialists and medical equipment into its prisons. It also procrastinates in recruiting doctors to work in the night shift for emergency cases.
